Apple Crumble Cake (Apfel  Streusel Kuchen)

In autumn, when apples are in season, this cake is prepared with a tinge of cinnamon for teatime.

The following recipe is from the Dr. Oetker site (English transalation) This is a recipe for beginners in baking.

Req: Springform pan (diameter- 26 cm)
All purpose Flour (Weizenmehl)
500 Grams
Baking Powder (Dr. Oetker Original Backin)
2.5 Teaspoons
150 Grams
Eggs (Medium size)
Butter or Margarine (Soft)
200 Grams
Vanilla Sugar (Dr. Oetker Vanillin Zucker)
Packet 1
Apple ( ideal: Holsteiner Cox, sweet & sour)
1 Kilogram
Lemon (Big) (Zitrone)
50 Grams
Vanilla Sugar (Dr. Oetker Vanillin Zucker)
Packet 1
Powdered Cinnamon
1 Teaspoon


  1. Prepare the Springform pan (baking paper and butter). Heat the oven - approx. 180 deg. celsius (top and bottom heat)
  2. Base -

    Mix the flour and backing powder in a mixing bowl. Add all the other ingredients and mix it with a mixer , first at low speed then till the highest speed till it has crumble consistency. Add 2/3 of the mixture to the springform pan and press it till itcomes to a height about 3cm.

  3. Filling-

    Peel the apples and cut it into wedges (see pics). Mix it with other ingredients and add it to the springform. Then add the rest of the crumble mixture on top of it. Now place it in oven.

  4. After it is done, remove the cake from the pan and leave it to cool.

    Before serving, sprinkle some icing sugar on top.

    Serve with whipped cream.
